Seven people evacuated after house fire at Church Street, Folkestone

Seven people had to be evacauted after a large house fire in Folkestone this morning.

The occupants were led from the building at Church Street after the blaze broke out in an outbuilding at the rear of the property at 2.59am.

Two fire engines from Folkestone fire station went to the scene where crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

The rear extension, which was used for storage, was severely damaged.

Firefighters left the property at 6am and investigation into the cause is still ongoing.

Earlier that night the crew went to extinguish a green wheelie bin which was alight in Foord Road South at 2.15am.

They were also called to nearby Cambridge Gardens where an open Ford transit flatbed van with a motorbike in the back was on fire at 2.30am.

It took them half an hour to put out the blaze which left both vehicles badly damaged.
