Air ambulance lands after boy, 12, hit by car in Ashford Road, Kingsnorth

A young boy is still fighting for his life in hospital after being knocked down on a busy road.

The 12-year-old was hit by a car in Ashford Road, Kingsnorth, on Friday and today a police spokesman described the youngster's injuries as "life-threatening".

He was said to have injuries to his head, neck, thorax, abdomen and upper and lower leg.

Police were called at 3.40pm and closed the road for three hours to allow emergency crews to help the victim.

Ambulance medics treated him at the scene and the air ambulance landed nearby.

The boy was then flown to a London hospital for further treatment.

A police spokesman said he had suffered a serious head injury.

The car involved was a white Audi A1.

The spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.40pm to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

"The pedestrian, a 12-year-old boy, has been airlifted to a London hospital. The road was closed at the Stanhope roundabout until 6.35pm."

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to call the serious collisions unit on 01622 798538.

The spokesman added: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the boy or the vehicle prior to the accident."
