Ashford: Arrest after alleged knife threat in M M Cash and Carry

A shop worker was allegedly threatened with a knife in a town centre food store.

Police rushed to M M Cash and Carry in New Rents, Ashford, just after 3.30pm yesterday.

Up to three police cars were seen parked in the area after officers were called to reports of a disturbance inside the shop.

A 36-year-old woman from Willesborough was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

Police spokesman Natalie Hardy said: "It was alleged that a woman was in possession of a knife and had made threats to someone in the shop.

"She remains in custody and inquiries are ongoing."

The shop sells fresh halal meat, fruit and vegetables.

Police cars were parked outside RBS and close to the Edinburgh Road car park.
