Poundland in Warren Retail Park, Ashford set to close after less than a year

Ashford's newest Poundland shop is set to shut its doors just eight months after it opened.

The bargain shop in Warren Retail Park confirmed plans to close on Wednesday, February 1.

A spokesman for the British chain said: "The store is closing, however customers can continue to shop at the Poundland store on High Street or County Square where they can find amazing value for just £1.

"Poundland will ensure jobs are available in other stores."

The shop changed its name in May last year after Poundland inherited the Family Bargains chain.

By which time Ashford already had two Poundland shops following the company's acquisition of the 99p Stores group in September 2015 and subsequent conversion of the high street store.

Residents were critical whether the town could sustain three Poundlands but the company remained firm saying it was looking at each town on a "case by case" basis.
