Burnt-out caravan was stuffed with tyres

A dumped caravan stuffed with tyres was razed to the ground in a fire last night.

The blaze broke out at Mock Lane, Chilmington at about 9.30pm.

Firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the blaze that poured out acrid smoke.

Two fire engines from the Ashford station were called and crews were at the scene for an hour.

Watch manager Mark Thomas said: "The caravan was razed to the ground. It had been stuffed with wheels and tyres."

Firefighters believe someone had brought the caravan and its contents to the site to dump and burn it.
