Car crashes through railings in Beaver Road, Ashford

Scores of onlookers descended after a car crashed through metal railings in Ashford.

The smash happened last night around 7.40pm at the junction between Beaver Road and Norman Road.

Police confirmed they were called to the single vehicle road traffic collision, where a silver Volvo crashed into some railings and a wall.

The male driver was sent to hospital.

Photographs taken by eyewitnesses appear to show aftermath in whcih the silver Volvo saloon ploughed through railings and a brick wall, taking both out.

It happened outside the Ashford International Sports and Social Club, better known by residents as the Working Men's Club.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.40pm to reports a car had gone into a building in Beaver Road, close to Ashford International Sports and Social Club.

"We sent one ambulance and a paramedic car to the scene.

"A man was taken to the William Harvey Hospital for further treatment. His injuries are not thought to be serious."
