Ashford: Coach full of tourists falls into ditch

A coach full of tourists has toppled into a ditch near junction 10 of the M20 in Ashford.

It is understood the Belgian-registered vehicle was suffering from mechanical problems whilst on the motorway so the driver pulled off the motorway onto the A2070 dual carriageway.

The driver, turned down Church Road, Sevington, to pull over but the coach went into a ditch which caused it to fall over on its side.

Amazingly, no-one was seriously injured with paramedics attending to 'cuts and bruises' at the scene and the most prominent damage to the vehicle appears to be its smashed windscreen.

The coach is now back on all four wheels but Church Road will remain close until the vehicle is recovered.

However, it has now also been suggested that the A2070 may need to be closed coming off the Junction 10 roundabout, heading towards Orbital Park, in order to recover the coach.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 11.28am after a coach went into a ditch in Church Road, Sevington.

"Officers attended along with ambulance staff but no serious injuries were reported.

"A road closure remains in place to enable the coach to be recovered."
