Combine harvester catches fire in Ashford field blaze

A combine harvester caught fire in a field of standing corn yesterday.

Fire crews were called to reports of corn and the vehicle alight in a field at around 2.40pm.

Three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent and firefighters used hose reels to put the fire out by 3.35pm. They left the scene by 4.30pm.

The cause of the fire is not known, but is believed to have started in the hopper area, resulting in 70% damage to the combine harvester.
