Overrunning engineering works to affect Ashford International rail services

Commuters are facing delays to the start of their week with buses replacing trains on services from Ashford.

Overrunning engineering works on the Hastings to Ashford line means trains will not run between the towns with "disruption expected throughout the day", Network Rail says.

Problems were encountered by engineers working on the line over the weekend in the Hastings area.

It means many people will be left affected by the works which will now have to be finished on Monday.

Network Rail said track renewal work scheduled to finish by the start of the working week has been delayed.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Unfortunately, train services on the Hastings line will be disrupted tomorrow morning.

"Bus replacement services will run between Hastings and Ashford, Bexhill and Battle from the start of service on Monday, with some disruption expected throughout the day.

"Our engineers are working hard to complete the work as quickly and as efficiently as possible in order to keep disruption to a minimum.

"We’d like to apologise to passengers in the South East for the inconvenience and are advising people to check their journeys before they travel."
