Cyclist John Durey dies following crash with Mercedes and lorry in Kingsnorth

A cyclist has died after he was seriously injured when a car overtook a lorry and crashed.

The man, named locally as John Durey, was cycling towards Ashford when he was involved in a crash with a white Mercedes A180 on the A2070 in Kingsnorth last Wednesday.

Mr Durey, who is believed to be from the Maidstone area, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries, but died yesterday. His family have been informed.

Cycling club VC Deal posted on Facebook yesterday: "It is with great regret the club announces the sad death of club member John Durey.

"He died today, Monday, June 5, from his injuries sustained in the serious traffic collision last Wednesday. Our thoughts & condolences are with all his family. Further details in due course. Thanks."

Tributes have been left on the club's Facebook page.

The Mercedes was travelling in the direction of Hamstreet on the A2070 at Kingsnorth near Ashford when the crash happened at around 7.40pm.

Police are still trying to trace to driver of the lorry.
