Cyclist seriously injured after coming off her bike in strong winds in Hamstreet near Ashford

A cyclist has been flown to hospital after coming off her bike while riding in strong winds near Ashford.

The woman, who is in her early 70s, had been travelling along the B2067 Ashford Road, Hamstreet.

Police were called at around 12.30pm after she fell and hit the kerb, causing a serious injury.

The rider, who is from the Maidstone area, was flown by Air Ambulance to Kings College Hospital, London.

The road was closed while officers carried out a scene investigation.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation unit is appealing for witnesses - anyone who may have seen what happened are asked to call 01622 798538.
