Crash and vehicle fire on M20 between Leeds Castle and Ashford

A driver narrowly escaped his vehicle before it burst into flames on the M20 this morning.

The car veered off the London-bound carriageway and caught alight following a crash involving one other vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the scene between junction 9 for Ashford and 8 for Leeds Castle just after 5.30am.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"One person was treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening and taken to a local hospital.

"One lane was closed while the vehicles were recovered. Officers were away from the scene at 6.50am."

Delays have now cleared.
