Witnesses have reported hearing an explosion in Ashford.

People have taken to social media to report the bang, followed by smoke coming from the direction of Pound Lane.

One person reported that an electricity company had been working in the area for sometime. He said the fire had been quickly brought under control.

A fire spokesman said crews were called to Pound Lane in Kingsnorth, where there was a fire in a diesel compressor that had spread to a nearby timber pile and outdoor material store.

Crews used compressed foam and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire.
