Fire in barn in Hinxhill near Ashford

Fifty firefighters tackled a major blaze near Ashford.

The fire broke out in the roof of a barn in Hinxhill, near Ashford at 3.30am today.

Eight fire engines, a height vehicle, command support unit and two bulk water carriers were originally sent to the scene.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews used four hose jets to fight the fire, and a portable pump was also used to pump water from a nearby open water source.

At 7.40am the number of engines was reduced to four and crews began damping the area down.

The single-storey building was being used as a storage unit.
