Fire in roof space of McDonald's at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Centre, Ashford

A fire in the roof of a McDonald’s fast food restaurant was put out by firefighters yesterday.

It happened at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Centre, Ashford, at 4.40pm.

Firefighter Nigel Collins, from Ashford fire station, said the blaze was contained in the roof space.

“Staff initially tackled it with fire extinguishers,” he said. “As there was no more smoke, they decided not to evacuate the restuatant. We came in through the service area so people would not have known about it.”

The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.
