BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Sam Carter is appearing at St Mary's Church in Ashford on Saturday, November, 16

One of the rising stars of the country’s folk scene is coming to Ashford to perform in the Revelation St Mary’s series of autumn concerts.

Since Sam Carter released his debut album Keepsakes in 2009, there has been a mounting excitement about this songwriter, guitarist and singer.

At the time he was an emerging artist in residence at The South Bank Centre in London, and has since gone on to tour extensively in the UK and abroad.

In 2010 he picked up the Horizon award for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

In the three years since he has performed alongside some of the luminaries of the folk scene, including previous visitors to Revelation St Mary’s Martin Carthy, Chris Wood and Martin Simpson.

His new album, The No Testament, is a search for the things that matter to us in the 21st century. Sam will be performing on Saturday, November 16, from 7pm.

Support on the night comes from Ashford band The Intermission Project, who will be performing a stripped down set of passionate folk in their own soulful style.

Tickets cost £10 in advance, or £12 on the door. Concessions are available.
