Gang attack leaves man with severe face wounds

A man is recovering in hospital after being beaten up in Ashford town centre.

The 34-year-old has multiple facial fractures and 18 days on from the attack, is still not well enough to be interviewed by police.

People living in Kent Avenue awoke to screams at about 3am on July 27 and blood was left on the pavement.

Three teenagers, one aged 16 the other two aged 19, have been arrested in connection with the assault. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The victim was out with a friend on the Friday night, went to the kebab shop in the High Street and got into an argument with three teenagers. Police were called and say they settled the matter.

The trio then followed the pair past the Shell garage in North Street and up Kent Avenue where one of the men was attacked and left with a broken and bloody face.

Police did not find any weapons but from the severity of the injuries to the man’s face believe something other than a fist or foot was used.

Det Con Matt Cook said: “The attackers deliberately armed themselves and followed their victim.”

He appealled for possible witnesses to come forwards, including a young woman who was seen with the group during the incident.

She is described as white, aged late teens early 20s, has long light brown hair and was wearing denim shorts, a pale top with a second beige coloured top knotted over her shoulders and white trainers.

The police are also appealing for a man seen walking behind County Square towards the Godinton Road at about 3.15am to contact them.
