Poor parking again forces binmen to ditch rubbish collections in Dering Road, Ashford

The rubbish collection in an Ashford street was interrupted for the second time in a fortnight because the bin lorry couldn't get past badly parked cars.

Residents are fed up with poorly parked cars affecting their rubbish collections.

The Biffa collection in Dering Road was again delayed on Good Friday when the vehicle found its path blocked by cars parked adjacent to each other in the narrow road.

This was the scene at around 8.15am this morning. Eventually the lorry had to reverse.

Resident Daren Payne said previously: “It’s so annoying because the bin men are just trying to do their job.

“They could put double yellow lines there but people will just keep on doing it. Most people park there so they can just nip into town.

“I do understand that people have to park somewhere, but maybe they can think twice about parking on the corner on a Friday.”

Ashford Community Safety Unit and the highways authority are looking into possible solutions to the problem.

An Ashford Borough Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the concerns in this area and will be liaising with Kent County Council at our next Joint Transportation Board meeting on April 15.”
