Folkestone man Danny Davis jailed after series of assaults in Ashford

A good Samaritan who tried to comfort two distressed women in Ashford ended up with three broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Carer Alan Howard, 58, had stopped to enquire if the women were safe when he was attacked by drunken Danny Davis.

The victim, who looks after his wife, a multiple sclerosis sufferer, was pushed in the chest and smashed his head as he fell.

Earlier in the evening at an Ashford pub, Davis had been sexually assaulting a girl by grabbing her bottom, Canterbury Crown Court was told.

"That night you behaved in a totally unacceptable fashion with violence and totally humiliating one of your victims"- Judge Adele Williams

And after attacking the complete stranger, the 29-year-old then assaulted his sister, Nicola Lancaster, and bit her partner, Anton Smythe, later the same night.

Now Davis, of Sandwich Close, Folkestone, has been jailed for a total of 32 months after admitting inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault by beating, assault causing actual bodily harm and sex assault.

Prosecutor Dominic Connolly told how during the evening Davis started “grabbing a girl’s buttocks”.

“He was told not to but at one point grabbed his victim and put her up against a wall saying he liked her.

“On the way home, Mr Howard got into conversation with the women and was pushed to his chest by the defendant who knocked him to the ground.

"It was then he struck his head and ended up with broken ribs and a punctured lung," he added.

The prosecutor said Davis then went to a friend’s home where he began arguing with his sister and kicked her in her kidney area, before sinking his teeth into her partner’s neck.

Mr Connolly said Mr Howard, who was a full-time carer for his wife, was put in hospital for a month, barely able to move because of his injuries.

In a victim impact statement read by the judge, Mr Howard said the incident has had "a massive impact on his life" and "knocked his confidence" in going out.

Michael Smith, defending, said: “Davis is devastated by what he did. He knows he has destroyed his family relationships and hasn’t spoken to his sister since the incident.

"He lost total control that night because of his mental health and drinking issues. He has not touched a drop since then because he is terrified by what drinking did to him that night.

"He only has vague recollections of what he did and this was extraordinarily bad night when he inflicted pain on anyone around him, including those trying to help.

"He is ashamed and is now broken and very remorseful. This was completely out of character."

Judge Adele Williams told him: "That night you behaved in a totally unacceptable fashion with violence and totally humiliating one of your victims, who ranged from a complete stranger to your own sister."

Davis was also ordered to sign the sex offender’s register.
