Fire crews tackled fir tree blaze in front of a house in Kennington, Ashford

Firefighters tackled a blaze outside a house in Alec Pemble Close, in Kennington last night.

Crews battled to put out the flames in a row of 13 ft high fir trees in front of a house.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the fire caused slight damage to guttering and the roof of a nearby house.

Two pumps were sent to the scene at 5.30pm and spent an hour putting out the fire using hose reel jets.

It is not yet known how the fire started but police were called to the scene.
