Kent Reliance and kmfm name Jack Miles of John Wallis Academy in Ashford our first Kent Hero

Hundreds of people from across the county were nominated for Kent Heroes 2015 - and today we named our first winner.

kmfm and Kent Reliance have teamed up for the awards scheme, which will name the teacher, carer, young person, 999 worker and unsung hero of the year.

The first award, for young person of the year, went to Jack Miles, who attends the John Wallis Academy in Ashford.

Jack showed incredible quick thinking and maturity when a 12-year-old from the same school was involved in a car accident.

He ran to the nearby doctor's surgery to get specialist help. As a result of Jack's actions a doctor from the surgery came quickly to the scene and was able to provide medical attention whilst waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

Jack's actions were highly praised by the emergency services who stated that his rapid and mature response no doubt contributed to his friend's survival.

As a member of the school student council, he was also part of a committee who made a request to host a Summer Fair with all proceeds being donated to the Kent Air Ambulance. After a successful event, the Academy raised over £1200.

A surprised Jack received a trophy and certificate and a cheque for £500 when Rob paid a surprise visit to the school today.

Listen for more winners every day this week on kmfm at 6pm.
