An Ashford Fire Station spokesman said: “A woman had had a row with her son, he walked out and it seemed she feared he may have thrown himself into the lake."

Police spokesman Steve Knight said; “The missing person, a young man, was located by officers and family members nearby. He was unharmed.

“I can’t really speculate on why it was thought he may have been in the lake, although generally speaking it is not uncommon for people to fear the worst.”

Locals saw a heavy presence of police, fire brigade and ambulance service at the scene, sparking speculation about what might be happening on social media.
