Ashford: Daredevil sunbather spotted on edge of nine-storey Panorama building

A sunbather has been spotted sitting precariously on the edge of one of Ashford's tallest buildings.

Shocked passers-by spotted the man perched on The Panorama building, which was previously known as Charter House.

He was photographed at about 12.30pm as Kent continues to be bathed in sunshine.

One passer-by said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"The window was wide open and he was sitting on the edge - I didn't know the windows could be opened that far.

"He was on the first floor, but it was still a bit of precarious sunbathing."

Plans to turn the iconic nine-storey building into flats were voted through in 2008.

Work started in 2013 and was delayed when asbestos was discovered a year later, but the first residents moved in February 2016.

Scores of new apartments are now being built on either side of the landmark, which was originally built for the Charter Consolidated mining company in the early 1970s.

Up to 110 apartments are to be erected either side of the site.
