Serious crash near Ashford between junctions 9 and 10 of the M20

A serious collision has been reported on the M20 tonight which Highways England says could lead to significant disruption.

It has happened near Ashford between junction 9 and 10 and said to be blocking the westbound carriageway.

Emergency services are at the scene but Highways England say the carriageway may be closed for several hours because of the severity of the incident.

It happened at around 6.35pm.

Road users travelling to London and the M25 from Dover have been advised to use the A2/M2 instead.

Highways officials say coastbound traffic is also being affected due to motorists slowing down to look at the accident on the opposite side of the carriageway.

Nearly a mile of London-bound traffic stuck between Junctions 9 and 10 are being made to do a U-turn get them off the motorway, which is likely to remain shut for several hours.

People are being urged to remain in their vehicles.
