24 December 2013
by Tricia Jamieson

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital after becoming trapped in the river in Ashford early on Christmas Eve.

The incident happened in Mace Lane, near Tesco, at 1.25am. The man had got out by the time Ashford fire crews and the ambulance service arrived.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “The call was to a man trapped in the river but when we got there, he was out and was conscious so we handed him over to the paramedics.

“It was an incredibly busy night for us with around 600 weather-related calls across the county.”
