A minibus that was picking up a disabled child for school caught fire this morning - setting light to a sports car parked next to it.

The Volkswagen had just pulled onto a driveway in St Mary’s Road, Newchurch, on Romney Marsh, at 8.40am when smoke started billowing from the vehicle.

The minibus burst into flames and the fire spread to an Audi TT.

A man, a woman and two children were in the house when the fire started but they were out of the building when firefighters arrived.

Two crews from Ashford spent two hours putting out the flames.

Crew manager Andy Harris said both vehicles were destroyed and the heat from the blaze warped window frames and guttering on the house.

Mr Harris said: “The minibus was there picking up a disabled child but they weren’t in the vehicle when the fire started. Everybody was safe and nobody needed to be rescued.”
