Lily Savage star Paul O'Grady of Aldington awarded High Court damages over News of the World phone hacking claims

TV personality Paul O'Grady has accepted "substantial" damages over his phone hacking claim.

The comic, famous for his Lily Savage alter ego and his Paul O'Grady Show, settled in the High Court in London today.

News Group Newspapers, which published the now defunct News of the World newspaper, accepted his voicemail messages were intercepted and there was a misuse of his private information.

The court heard the hacking had caused anger and stress to the star, who lives in Aldington near Ashford.

The star has recently suffered ill health. The drag star, who suffers from angina, was admitted to hospital last year for surgery.
