Residents are being urged to get involved with this year’s Treecycling scheme for Pilgrims Hospice.

A team of volunteers will collect Christmas trees from houses when the festivities are over, which are then recycled and re-used as wood chippings in parks and woodland areas.

Residents can help by signing up, putting leaflets round their area or even by offering a van and helper to assist with collections.

Pam Meller, fundraising manager, said: “Last year’s Treecycling scheme was hugely popular and we are hoping that with help from the community we can build on that success this year.

“To do so we hope that people will help us get the word out about the scheme by leafleting between Christmas and Tuesday, January 6.”

Last year the scheme raised £8,000, and Pilgrims Hospices are hoping to top that this year.

The charity is also encouraging people to send a photo of their tree before it gets treecycled by tweeting a selfie to @pilgrimshospices with the hashtag #I’mTreecycling.
