A man has died after being hit by a car in Tenterden this morning.

The man, in his 40s, was hit by a black Renault Megane in Appledore Road in the early hours.

He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, where he later died.

Kent Police were called to the scene at 5.50am.

The driver of the car was said to be shocked, but not injured.

The road was closed in both directions, and was re-opend again just before 9am.

Anyone who saw the crash or who was driving along the road just before the smash is asked to phone the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
