Police called to Edinburgh Road multi-storey car park in Ashford town centre following a call a man is on the roof

Police have talked a man down from the top of an Ashford town centre car park after more than two hours.

Park Street and Edinburgh Road were cordoned off at either end just after 5pm as officers talked to the man, who stood close to the edge of the lot's top floor. The incident ended at about 7.15pm.

Paramedics were also at the scene.

The man had been spotted eating, and using a mobile phone.

Insp Andy Bidmead at the scene said: "We believe this was a 17-year-old youth who was a patient at the William Harvey.

"He has been up there since about 5pm. Our negotiation team spoke to him.

"He has now been talked down and will be taken back to the William Harvey Hospital."

Police were called to the same car park only two days ago after a young man was threatening to jump off the roof.

After two and a half hours, the man was detained and taken to hospital.
