Kent MP Damian Green claims police in the Home Office leaks inquiry searched his emails for references to a leading civil liberties campaigner.

In an interview with The Times, the Ashford MP and Conservative immigration spokesman said Scotland Yard officers used the keywords "Shami Chakrabarti" when examining the contents of the hard disk of his computer during the search of his Parliamentary office in November.

Shami Chakrabarti is the director of Liberty and has been a regular critic of the Government.

Mr Green said: "This feels to me like a fishing expedition on somebody who embarrasses the government of the day. That's very disturbing."

The Liberty director has said she is alarmed at the claim. There is no suggestion she was in any way involved in the leaks.
