Adam Ant has been announced as the headliner for this year's Create Music Festival in Victoria Park, Ashford

Legendary solo artist Adam Ant will headline this year's Create Music Festival in Ashford.

The singer, who gained popularity as lead vocalist of post punk group Adam and the Ants, has scored over 10 UK top ten hits, including three No.1s, one of which was Prince Charming.

He will top the bill of the Create Main Stage, sponsored by Ashford College, as part of the very special 20th Anniversary celebrations for the festival on Sunday, July 26.

Also due to headline on the day is Mark Morriss, front man for The Bluetones, and Kent four piece Salvation Jayne.

Organiser Chris Dixon said: “To get such high profile artists to be part of our festival celebration is a real coup, and a measure of how far the festival has come over the years."

The free festival will be held in Victoria Park once again and will see more than 40 bands, solo performers and DJs performing across the four stages throughout the day.

Adam Ant, once of the biggest pop stars of the early 1980s, will be joined on the Main Stage by Van Susans, Kaleidphone and Riskee & The Ridicule.

Mark Morriss, who has 13 hits to his name and three top ten albums, will headline the Revelation St Mary’s Stage, and Salvation Jayne, who take inspiration from The Black Keys and Joe Bonamassa, will headline the Right Track Music Stage.

Karen Trimmings, manager at Revelation St Mary’s said: “We couldn’t resist booking Mark Morriss for our stage.

"He is so well regarded on the local and national scene, and you could say almost as musically old as Create given his first Bluetones album was released in 1996. All of our local performers are really chuffed to be on the same bill as him.”

Chris and Su Bailey, Directors of Right Track Music said: “In booking Salvation Jayne we have landed ourselves a top quality Kent band with a large following and serious integrity."

Last month, it was announced that former Supergrass frontman, Gaz Coombes, will perform one of two special gigs at Revelation St Mary’s ahead of the main event.

He will perform at the town centre church on Friday, July 24.
