Smoke at Ashford petrol station was false alarm

Two fire engines were called out after reports of smoke billowing from a petrol station.

Fire crews discovered that it had been artificial anti-burglar smoke that had been accidentally triggered off by an engineer.

It happened at the Shell garage at the corner of Somerset Road and North Street, Ashford, just before 2.20pm last Thursday.

An Ashford Fire Station spokesman said: “It turned out to be what is called a smoke cloak, which is harmless smoke activated to disorientate intruders.”
