A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the 10m by 15m room of wooden construction used for storage and fence making was completely destroyed.

At its height, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a main jet supplemented with hose reels and a water shuttle from a nearby hydrant.

Several buildings in the vicinity were affected by the fire, the fire service said.

No injuries have been reported and the cause is yet to be identified.

Crews brought the blaze under control by 3pm and were expected on the scene until at least 4pm to damp down.
