A teenage motorcyclist has spoken after suffering horrific injuries after a collision between his bike and a car in Ashford.

Darin Laidler was thrown from his KLX 125 dirtbike and over a car.

The 19-year-old’s safety helmet came off before he hit the floor, and he fractured his jaw and cheekbone, broke his left wrist, and fractured his right ankle, right leg and right hip.

He has been in Ashford’s William Harvey Hospital since the accident on Thursday, August 22.

Darin, from Kennington said: “I remember spinning in the air. It was very blurry and I remember feeling pain.

"My leg felt very wobbly, where it had broke. I also smashed my two front teeth when I hit the ground and my jaw was cut.

“I was awake the whole time. I just kept staring up at the trees, and I remember people gathering around me.

"People were reassuring me, and telling me not to move, or to get up. A lady, a friend of my aunt, was there, holding my hand.

“I remember going in the ambulance, but wasn’t thinking about anything. I was in shock.

“I broke my leg, fractured my wrist, broke my ankle and my front teeth are broke as I hit my chin on the road. I have a broken hip, which they had to screw into place and I have a rod in my leg with a bolt. I have staples in my hip and leg.”

His white and green bike was badly damaged in the smash.

He said: “It was a brand new bike. I only got it the Friday before the accident. The crash hasn’t put me off riding, but my dad is saying he will get me a car now!”

The former Towers School student has got a long road to recovery ahead.

He said: “I can’t walk. I haven’t been out of bed. On Friday, they tried to get me out of bed, but it made me feel faint.”

During his stay at hospital, Darin is being entertained by frequent visitors, including his dad, also called Darin Laidler, and his mum Karen Aldridge and girlfriend Amy Marie.

He added: “I would like to thank all the people who helped me on the day.”

The accident was in Canterbury Road, between Magazine Road and Simone Weil Avenue, at 8.10am on Thursday, August 22. The driver of the car was unhurt.
