From Challock to Kennnington - The Ashford adventures of Peter Rabbit

An adventurous rabbit called Peter who disappeared for six weeks finally turned up more than four miles from home!

The grey lop-eared pet was found in an alley off Dales Walk, in Kennington, after escaping from a garden in Challock.

After travelling 4.2 miles he was found happily hopping along the path by a walker who picked him up and took him to Barrow Hill Veterinary Hospital, in Maidstone Road, Ashford.

Luckily Peter had a microchip and has now been reunited with his delighted owner.

Head nurse at Barrow Hill, Katie Mackintosh said: “He made a journey of 4.2 miles.

“We are assuming that he managed to travel by himself as he did escape from the garden in Challock.

“A member of the public brought him in to us and we scanned him and found a microchip.

“We contacted the owners who were extremely happy to have Peter returned to them completely unharmed from his escapade!”

Katie added: “Microchipping pets is an integral part of getting lost animals returned to their owners. It is important not only to chip your pets, but to ensure that the contact details are kept up to date.

“We have so many stray animals brought into us which have chips but we cannot contact their owners as they have moved or changed their numbers and not updated the national petlog database.”
