Tipper truck hits street light near Bank Street in Ashford

A tipper truck has hit a streetlight in Ashford's shared space.

Police officers went to the scene of the crash in Elwick Road which was closed in both directions.

A police spokesman said that officers responded to reports of a crash involving a tipper truck shortly after 10.30am.

Motorists faced lengthy delays as the ring road section was shut in both directions, but the road reopened shortly after 2pm.

The incident at the Bank Street junction is located on the Ashford shared space scheme with pedestrians, which operates a 20mph limit.

Stagecoach services A, B, C and H at Bank Street were diverted to the Vicarage Lane bus stops instead.

G and E Line services were sent via Station Road to Vicarage Lane.

Bus services are now expected to return to the bus stops in Bank Street, which had been closed off to traffic.
