The Cod Father in Ashford gets five-star food hygiene rating

A town centre fish and chip shop told to clean up its act has been given a five-star food hygiene rating.

The Cod Father, in Ashford's Lower High Street, scored just one out of five overall when council inspectors visited earlier this year – ruling it in need of major improvement.

But Ashford Borough Council (ABC) revisited the site last month, and it has now been given the highest rating possible.

Owner Khaista Ahmadzai said: “When I got the original rating, I felt really bad.

“Our shop is very famous in Ashford and that’s why when people saw the report they couldn’t believe it and I was really struggling for a month.

“On the inspection day we didn’t have handwash and blue kitchen roll, but normally we always have it so when she came back it was fine.”
