The Salvation Army in Ashford appeals for children's toys and gifts for struggling families at Christmas

With only a few weeks to go until the big day, a charity is appealing to the people of Ashford to help out those in need over the festive season.

The Salvation Army has launched its annual Christmas Present Appeal, and is asking people to donate unwrapped new toys and gifts for the borough's families who are struggling to make ends meet.

In particular they are looking for gifts for children aged five and over, and gift vouchers for children aged 12 and over.

The appeal is once again being supported by the Kentish Express, with our North Street office acting as a drop off point from 9am until 5pm on weekdays.

Gifts can also be taken to Centrepiece, in Bank Street, between 10am and 2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The Salvation Army will also hold a celebration event on Christmas Day from noon at the Evangelical Church, in Francis Road, South Ashford.

The day will include a Christmas dinner, carols and entertainment.
