An academic from Ashford led his team to victory in the final of University Challenge last night.

Kennington student Ralph Morley captained Trinity College, Cambridge, in the 20th final of the quiz show hosted by journalist Jeremy Paxman.

The former St Teresa's Primary School pupil steered his side to a convincing 240 to 135 point victory over rivals Somerville College in Oxford.

Mr Morley was presented the trophy by writer Jeanette Winterson, who jokingly said: "I'm sorry it looks like something from The Hobbit."
