Woman dies in lorry crash on M20 near Ashford

A woman has died after a lorry crashed and overturned on the M20.

The victim, who was a passenger in the HGV, died at the scene of the smash between junctions 10 for Ashford and 11 for Hythe last night.

The collision happened at around 5.10pm and involved a white Mini Cooper and a white and red Scania HGV lorry.

The male lorry driver was taken to William Harvey Hospital suffering minor injuries. The Mini driver was unhurt.

Police, ambulance, firefighters and an air ambulance crew were sent to the scene, as well as a hazardous area response unit.

The motorway was completely shut overnight while the wreckage was cleared and an investigation was carried out.

One lane reopened at 5.45am and all lanes had reopened by 8.30am.

Drivers faced long delays yesterday evening and throughout this morning's rush hour, but congestion has since cleared.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
