Ashford United 1 Dunston UTS 1 - match report

Ashford United's FA Vase adventure continues.

After a 1-1 draw against Dunston UTS infront of more than 600 fans at Homelands on Saturday, extra-time failed to produce a winner in the fifth round tie and the two teams will do it all again in Gateshead next Saturday.

Paul Booth was denied by Dunston keeper Liam Connell and Seb Schoburgh sliced wide late on as Ashford pressed at the end of the extra 30 minutes, but they could not find a goal to seal their progress.

Shaun Welford had put the home side ahead after just 10 minutes when he headed home a cross from the right from Taser Hassan.

However the visitors drew level just after the hour, when substitute Aristotte Guerin finished low past George Kamurasi.

Dunston appealed for a penalty when Pat Kingwell challenged top scorer Malcolm Morien but nothing was given.

Tommy Sampson, who led Deal Town to FA Vase victory at Wembley, was among the club's guests on a bright chilly afternoon at Homelands.

Former manager Neil Cugley was also there after Folkestone's home game against Whyteleafe was postponed.

United, boosted by Welford's early goal, settled into the tie well, playing some neat football, with goalkeeper George Kamarusi hardly tested until making two crucial saves just before half-time.

They made a bright start to the second half, Ryan Palmer tricked his way into the box, setting up Welford who saw his shot blocked.

Then Hassan broke away down the right - but chose to go it alone - seeing his effort deflected into the arms of Dunston goalkeeper and skipper Liam Connell.

The visitors then lost injured left-back Dan Halliday soon afterwards, but Guerin took little time before making an impact with the equaliser.

Steve Richardson fired over from the edge of the box, but neither side could find a winner and both teams will be in Monday's quarter-final draw.

The last eight pairings are still someway from being finalised, after two other weekend ties were postponed.
