Benn Barham maintained his winning form with victory in the inaugural Golf Escapes PGA South Andalusian Overseas Pro-Am in Spain

Benn Barham maintained his winning form with victory in the inaugural Golf Escapes PGA South Andalusian Overseas Pro-Am in Spain.

The Tenterden-based former European Tour player won by three shots, finishing ahead of Chris Gane, the man he beat to the Virgin Atlantic Little Red PGA South Order of Merit title.

The victory earned Barham £800 and he added to his winnings by picking up another £150 by helping his amateur partners from the C+K Group Group – Ian Pether, Simon Robertson and Neil Grey – to win the team event by eight shots.

Barham said: “With the Titleist PGA Play Offs to come next for me, this was the ideal event to play in, involving three rounds over three testing courses.

“I made a great start at La Reserva to finish with 67 to lead by three. I was pleased with my 69 at Valderrama, as it was the first time I had played there.

“My lead was down to one shot at Finca Cortesin, with six holes to go but I re-grouped and made some birdies to win.”

Barham’s first round of five-under-par 67 opened up a lead that only Gane, former Ashford club professional Paul Sherman now at Langley Park and Calum Callan (Cottesmore) got near with rounds of 70.

Barham shot a terrific two-under-par 69 at Valderrama, and aftero out in one-over-par at Finca Cortesin, Barham birdied the 14th, 16th and 18th to claim another victory in a successful season.
