Ms Brett said: “It is no secret that Ashford United is looking to build an exciting new sports village on the site of Homelands and, with the continued help of the local community, this is something that we can make happen.

"My role is to bring everyone together and help create something wonderful, which can be used for many years to come.”

"The club is keen to engage with the local community and it’s our intention to build a 3G all-weather synthetic pitch as we want Homelands to be a hub for the local community.

"This will allow local schools and youth organisations to use the facility. The proposed regeneration of the ground will include a hotel and spa, a gym, tennis courts, conference facilities, a fabulous wedding venue and lots more besides.

Mr Halligan added: “We feel it is important that the whole community is involved in the regeneration of Ashford United Football Club. The plans, which are yet to be approved, have been put together with the people of Ashford in mind. We want to ensure the redeveloped site appeals to everyone.”
