The diggers moved in at Homelands on Monday for the first phase of a £10m redevelopment of the Kingsnorth site, including the wrap-around stadium.

Owner Don Crosbie, who is overseeing the work as project manager, said: “Everyone is excited to get it up and running.

“BBK Groundworks are the contractors doing the job, with bulldozers set to move in today (Thursday) and tomorrow to continue the work.

“We have also had to remove part of the perimeter fencing, as well as protect the irrigation system.

“It will take six to eight weeks and we hope to complete by the middle of July.”

Meanwhile, the stadium plans are still at the consultancy stage with Ashford Borough Council, following the pre-planning assessment meeting last month.

Mr Crosbie hopes things will progress in the next fortnight.

On the pitch, record top scorer Stuart Zanone is due to sign a new contract in the next few days.
