Danny Lye leaves Ashford United

Danny Lye has left Ashford United.

The club issued a statement confirming his departure just two games into the new Bostik South season.

United lost 5-0 at South Park on Tuesday - finishing with nine men - after Jason Goodchild and Micky Phillips were both sent off. It followed the 1-0 opening day home defeat against Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.

The statement said: "We can announce that ex-manager Danny Lye has left the club by mutual consent.

"We would like to thank Dan for all his work and efforts in his time at AUFC, and everything he did for us last season.

"We wish him the best of luck for the future .

"Further updates will follow, when we are in a position to confirm new staff and players, and those that are no longer part of the club."

Lye took over almost two years ago to the day after Paul Chambers was sacked immediately after the 5-1 FA Cup defeat at Cray Valley a few days earlier.

It was his first managerial appointment, and last season led the club to win the Southern Counties East League Premier Division title, and a return to Isthmian League football after seven years.

United also won the Kent Senior Trophy.
