You have seen the headlines about huge cats prowling the Kentish Downs, reported glimpses of strange creatures slinking through the woods, snatched photographs of animals too large to be domestic moggies.
Is it true? Are imported beasts of prey roaming Kent's countryside? And what do you do if you think you have seen one?
Remember detail
With the "beasts" of Bodmin and Exmoor still ranking in many minds with the Loch
Ness Monster or Bigfoot, Kent Big Cat Research has joined with
Kent Online to encourage witnesses to come forward and report
their sightings.
Time, place and date are just as important
as the approximate length and height of the animal. Also, any
unusual scratches on trees, peculiar droppings and large paw-prints
are worth noting and the discovery of eaten carcasses of native
wildlife.
Paw-prints are difficult to find, especially on muddy
pathways often obliterated by horses hoofs and bicycles. Finding
scratch marks on trees is nigh on impossible too, but hundreds
of people are still catching glimpses of the real thing - panthers
leaping over hedgerows, a puma padding through a field and lynx
caught in torchlight.
