Police close off Ivy Lane in Canterbury city centre after reports of a 2ft wide hole

A city centre road has been closed this morning after a collapsed sewer opened up 2ft wide in the middle of the street.

Police were called to Ivy Lane at 7.50am after reports the hole had appeared and have placed a cordon while repairs are carried out.

Kent Highways were also alerted and confirmed a sewer had collapsed. Engineers Southern Water have been contacted to fix a pipe

Onlookers described the hole as 2ft wide adding workmen are at the scene close to the Waitrose car park.

No injuries have been reported.
