Two schoolgirls were forced to run to safety after being followed by a suspicious man in Canterbury.

The girls, aged 11 and 12, had been approached on a bus which stopped in the Rough Common Road area of the city last Thursday at around 4.50pm.

It comes as officers are also investigating a man who allegedly tried to speak to a child at Wildwood Animal Park in Herne Bay at around 12.30pm on June 1.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Emma Banks said: "Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Kent Police on 101.

"At the moment we’re investigating the two incidents as separate events.

"It is always worth reminding our children never to go anywhere with a stranger and keep to well-lit areas where people can see them.

"And if they’re worried or concerned about anyone suspicious - report it immediately."
