A man was hit in the face with a stiletto shoe by a woman as he tried to break up a fight in Canterbury city centre.

Police say it happened as he intervened in a scuffle between two men in St Margaret's Street.

The victim, in his 20s, was taken to Kent and Canterbury Hospital for treatment for an eye injury.

The suspect is described as a white woman, aged about 23, with blonde hair.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and information about the incident which happened shortly before 1am on Sunday, May 26.

Sgt Louise Murphy said: "The incident took place in the city centre so it's likely the area was busy at that time of the evening. I would urge anyone who saw it to contact police to help officers with their investigation."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact PS Louise Murphy at Kent Police by calling 101 and quoting ZY/14553/13.
